Artipelag
Artipelag is one of Sweden's most unique event and conference venues – a place where world-class architecture, the grand Stockholm archipelago and contemporary art come together with first-rate event spaces. The venue at Artipelagstigen 1 on Värmdö is just 20 minutes from Stockholm city but feels like an entirely different world. The main event hall is called Artboxen (the Art Box) – a 1,200 sqm event hall with a 12 m ceiling height that can accommodate 100–1,100 guests. Artboxen is a genuine black box with technical infrastructure prepared for rigging, sound and video. Uniquely, the venue can be either white – with Artipelag's characteristic white wooden walls visible – or entirely black, with black wool drapes from floor to ceiling. A vehicle access door allows trucks and stage trailers to drive directly onto the floor.
Directly adjacent to Artboxen is the Foajén (Foyer) – a long, bright space with panoramic windows overlooking Baggensfjärden and the surrounding archipelago. The foyer is a natural space for pre-event receptions, mingling and dinner, adding the backdrop of nature to the event experience. On level 3, the Rooftop Terrace offers a sweeping 360-degree view, alongside the Artipelag Restaurant with panoramic outlook. The Artistrummet (Artist Room) – with 11 dressing rooms, a lounge area and a separate entrance – serves as a greenroom and backstage facility for artists and speakers.
We have produced Musikförläggarnas Pris (the Swedish Music Publishers' Award) – the industry's annual gala – at Artipelag in 2023 and 2024, and look forward to doing so again.

What we can offer for your event at Artipelag
Here we have set out the services we typically offer to clients organising events at Artipelag.Sound technology
Artboxen has a basic sound installation but most professional events require a complete additional solution. We deliver full-scale PA systems designed for both conference programmes and live artists. For Musikförläggarnas Pris we managed a complete live production with PA, sound mix, monitor mix, wireless microphones and live band equipment for all artists and speakers. The acoustics in Artboxen are good and the high ceiling allows well-balanced line array solutions.Lighting technology
With a 12 m ceiling height and rigging points in the roof structure, Artboxen is an excellent venue for ambitious lighting productions. For Musikförläggarnas Pris 2023 we rigged a full-scale rig with Ayrton Magic Panel 602, Clay Paky K20, Clay Paky Sharpy Plus and GLP JDC-1 – rigged on truss above the stage, on the sides and on the stage floor. The entire rig was pixel-mapped via a Watchout media server in sync with the LED screen, creating a fully integrated lighting and video spectacle.Video technology
For Musikförläggarnas Pris 2023 we delivered a 10×4 m high-resolution LED screen behind the stage, continuing upward into the stage ceiling with three additional rows of the same screen. Camera production, IMAG screens and video control via Watchout media server were all included. Artboxen's neutral walls and black backdrops make it an excellent environment for LED, projection and video walls of all kinds.Décor
Our décor department delivers stages, carpeting, furniture and set designs tailored to Artipelag's unique aesthetic. For Musikförläggarnas Pris we built a 10×4 m podium stage with catwalk, clad in high-gloss black carpet, along with several DJ stages in adjacent spaces. Artboxen's height and column-free floor allow large, ambitious stage productions.Carpentry
Our carpentry workshop produces the custom solutions that elevate EDGE's deliveries at Artipelag – entrance portals, stage front cladding, catwalks and bespoke decorative details. With relatively tight build windows (Artipelag is popular and frequently fully booked), the efficiency of our preparation and production planning is especially important.Content & Graphics
For Musikförläggarnas Pris we produced graphics optimised to the exact pixel resolution of the LED screen – work that requires precision and close collaboration with the video technicians. Our content and graphics department is experienced in producing for large LED surfaces and ensures all material is delivered in the correct format for seamless playback on site.Project management
Artipelag has strong opinions about how events should be run, and close collaboration with the venue's own production team is key to a successful event. Our project management has experience of exactly this and coordinates EDGE's delivery in dialogue with Artipelag's team for an efficient and seamless build – despite the transport distances that an archipelago location entails.Transport & Logistics
Artipelag's location on Värmdö, 20 minutes from Stockholm city, means logistics planning is especially important. We transport our equipment with our own trucks and trailers from our warehouse in Sollentuna and always plan well in advance to avoid delays. Artboxen's truck access door makes load-in and load-out quick and efficient once on site.Concept & Visualisation
Artipelag's architectural character and natural surroundings make visualisation especially meaningful – it is easy to create events that genuinely exploit the uniqueness of the venue, but it requires spatial and contextual planning. We always produce 3D visualisations and scaled rigging drawings showing how our solution interacts with Artipelag's architecture and lighting conditions.Pre-programming
For complex productions like Musikförläggarnas Pris – with a pixel-mapped lighting rig synchronised to the LED screen and live artists – pre-programming is essential. At our studio in Sollentuna we can connect the lighting console and Watchout server to a 3D rendering of Artboxen and run the entire show sequence in advance. This saves an enormous amount of time on site and delivers a more confident and polished result.Frequently asked questions about events at Artipelag
What is Artboxen and what can be done there?
Artboxen is Artipelag's main event hall – 1,200 sqm with a 12 m ceiling height and capacity for 100–1,100 guests. It is a genuine black box with technical infrastructure prepared for rigging, sound and video. The venue can be either white (with Artipelag's characteristic white wooden walls visible) or entirely black (black wool drapes from floor to ceiling) – giving events a completely different character depending on the choice. There are no columns interrupting the floor area.
How does rigging work in Artboxen?
Artboxen has a clear height of 12 m and is equipped with technical infrastructure for suspending sound, lighting and video equipment. We have rigged full-scale lighting rigs with Ayrton Magic Panels, Clay Paky and GLP in Artboxen – pixel-mapped and synchronised with the LED screens via a Watchout media server. There are no floor columns and the beam structure provides excellent support for complex truss rigs.
Can a truck be driven into Artboxen?
Yes. Artboxen has a vehicle access door that allows trucks and stage trailers to drive directly onto the floor. This makes load-in and load-out for large productions significantly easier than at most city venues and enables shorter build times.
How can Artboxen be combined with the other spaces at Artipelag?
Artboxen is directly adjacent to the Foyer, which with panoramic windows overlooking Baggensfjärden is a natural space for pre-event receptions, mingling and dinner. The rooftop terrace on level 3 can be used for cocktail receptions or closing events. The Artist Room – with 11 dressing rooms and a lounge area – is an excellent greenroom and backstage facility. The 1,800 sqm art gallery can complement for exhibitions or trade shows.
Can a live band perform at Artipelag?
Yes, and we have done so on several occasions. For Musikförläggarnas Pris 2023 we delivered complete live band equipment for the artists Jelassi, Cleo, Yaeger, Peg Parnevik and Lasse Holm – all backed by the band Damn. We handled sound mix, monitor mix, wireless microphones and full in-ear monitoring for a demanding live production in Artboxen.
What types of events has EDGE produced at Artipelag?
We have produced Musikförläggarnas Pris (the Swedish Music Publishers' Award) in 2023 and 2024 at Artboxen – the industry's annual gala with a full-scale LED stage, pixel-mapped lighting rig and live band. It is an environment we know well and thoroughly enjoy working in.
How do you get to Artipelag?
Artipelag is located at Artipelagstigen 1 in Gustavsberg on Värmdö, approximately 20 minutes from Stockholm city by car. SL bus service runs from Slussen (line 474 towards Hemmesta/Mölnvik, change to 468 towards Hålludden, alight at Hålludden). During parts of the year, passenger boat services operate directly from the city. On-site parking for 350 cars is available.
What makes Artipelag unique as an event venue?
The combination of world-class architecture (designed by Johan Nyrén), the grand Stockholm archipelago setting and the technically well-prepared Artboxen is difficult to find in a single package. Artipelag is also an active art museum – giving events a cultural dimension that Stockholm city venues rarely match. It is a venue where the location itself contributes to the experience.
