The 7.5 m ceiling height sets the frame – enough for well-designed light rigs and LED structures. For YouTube Festival we built a rig with Martin LED washes, Clay Paky Sharpy Plus and GLP JDC-1 that worked equally well for conference lighting and full festival lighting.

In one of Frihamnen's most iconic buildings – built in 1927 for Banan-Kompaniet, the banana import company, and known as "The Banana Temple" – Stockholm's newest and largest event venue opened its doors in 2023. Under the name B-K, Kulturarenor operates an industrial venue of approximately 3,750 sqm with three unique indoor spaces, two large outdoor areas, four bars and a direct waterfront location on the quays of Frihamnen. It is a raw, grand blank canvas with complete branding freedom and one of Stockholm's most visually striking event environments.

The central Main Room is an approximately 1,000 sqm warehouse-style hall with authentic brick walls, concrete floors and an industrial character. With 7.5 m ceiling height, blackout capability and two loading docks straight from the street, it enables full-scale stage productions, concerts, galas, conferences and live broadcasts. EDGE premiered at Banankompaniet in September 2023 with YouTube Festival 2023 – and immediately felt it was a venue we would come back to time and again.

Sound technology

Banankompaniet is designed with live music in mind and the acoustics of the Main Room are well suited for professional PA. For YouTube Festival 2023 we delivered a complete sound system for live music and entertainment – PA, sound mix, monitor mix, wireless microphones and live band equipment for the artists Julia Frej, Loreen, Oscar Zia, Peg Parnevik, Jelassi and Deki Alem, as well as hosts Petter and Fanna. For broadcast productions such as Expressen's Party Leaders' Debate 2026, we handle the complete technical audio production.

Lighting technology

With 7.5 m ceiling height and the venue's raw industrial aesthetic, powerful lighting designs come into their own at Banankompaniet. For YouTube Festival we built a lighting rig with moving LED wash fixtures from Martin, Clay Paky Sharpy Plus and GLP JDC-1 – optimised to maximise the LED stage size while still delivering a fully functional stage lighting setup for both conference and concert use within the same rig.

Video technology

For YouTube Festival 2023 we built a 35 sqm 16:9 LED screen in the centre of the stage with additional LED wing sections on each side in three levels – one of the more ambitious LED stage constructions we have produced in a Stockholm venue. Video control was handled via a Watchout media server with complete camera production and presentation technology. The dark industrial walls of the Main Room enhance all LED and projection solutions.

Décor

Our décor department delivers stages, carpeting, furniture and set designs that interact with Banankompaniet's industrial aesthetic. For YouTube Festival we built a 150 sqm high-gloss black carpeted stage in the venue. The raw character of the room provides a powerful contrast for set design – and the freedom to create large, ambitious solutions that genuinely fill the space.

Carpentry

Our carpentry workshop produces the details and constructions that elevate the stage expression – stage fronts, entrance portals, catwalks and bespoke installations. In a venue with as strong a visual identity as Banankompaniet, the carpentry contribution is especially important in creating a set design that matches the power of the room.

Print

The print department delivers banners, vinyl wraps, cut-out logos and branding tailored to the industrial venue's large surfaces and high walls. Banankompaniet's brick walls and concrete floors create strong contrast surfaces for graphic branding – and we know how to make the most of them.

Content & Graphics

Our content and graphics department produces graphics optimised to the exact specifications of the LED screen and ensures all playable material is delivered in the correct format and resolution to the video technicians. For YouTube Festival we ensured all graphic material was adapted to the screen construction's distinctive format – a central 16:9 surface plus wing sections at each side.

Project management

We premiered at Banankompaniet and have since built up solid venue knowledge and a good working relationship with the house production team. Our project managers coordinate EDGE's delivery in dialogue with the B-K team and ensure build and breakdown flows run efficiently via the venue's two loading docks.

Transport & Logistics

Banankompaniet's two street-level loading docks make load-in and load-out relatively straightforward for a centrally located Stockholm venue. We transport our equipment with our own trucks and trailers from our warehouse in Sollentuna and always plan the transport schedule well in advance in coordination with the venue's production team.

Concept & Visualisation

Banankompaniet's strong visual character makes visualisation especially meaningful – you want to see how the set design interacts with the raw brick walls and the industrial room's aesthetic. We always produce scaled rigging drawings and 3D visualisations showing the solution in its proper context.

Pre-programming

For productions with live artists, timecoded show elements and complex LED solutions, pre-programming is essential. At our studio in Sollentuna we can prepare the lighting and video sequences in advance against a 3D rendering of the venue – and arrive at Banankompaniet with a show that is ready to run.
