LED portal, three stage canopies and a full-scale arena production

2024 was a year packed with great projects and beautiful productions. One of them was Tele2 Awards at 3Arena on 14 June, where for the sixth year running we got the trust of PS Occasion to design and deliver a full set design and technical solution.

This year we built a distinctive set design around a large LED portal that, together with three large stage canopies, created a physical sense of space within the arena and gave the camera production a fantastic foreground to work with.

Shima Niavarani and Le Hype hosted the evening, and the show was topped off by Molly Sandén in top form.

A big thank you to PS Occasion and Tele2 for the trust, thank you to the team at StockholmLive for easy and great days in a fantastic arena – and last but not least, a huge thank you to the entire EDGE crew on site.

Our delivery

For this project we delivered:
  • Sound

The audio was built as an arena rig for a full-scale production. The PA solution included a 32-box line array, sixteen 3×18 subs, frontfills, monitor and FOH mix positions, and sixteen channels of wireless microphones. Full stage tech and monitoring was rigged for the live band and performing artists.

During the show, the system was staffed by FOH engineer, monitor engineer, system engineer and mic technician.

The intercom solution covered eight wired and eight wireless beltpacks with PGM audio, tying together stage, mix positions, video control and backstage.

The pre-party was set up with a separate PA and a Nexus 2 DJ rig. At the entrance, background music ran through the crocodile-mouth tunnel with a connection for the client's own laptop.

  • Light

The stage lighting was designed directly against the stage drawings and 3D sketches, with a lighting operator and dimmer technician on site for rehearsals and the show. Ambient lighting was built as a separate layer over the dinner area to hold the right feel between show moments.

In the pre-party area we rigged simpler ambient lighting with front lighting for the DJ stage. At the entrance, LED bars were placed along the crocodile-mouth tunnel, and a separate lighting setup was built for the client's own photo wall.

For an additional vernissage area, we added a pair of Viper fixtures as breakup lighting across the space, clip-on spotlights on wooden easels and further LED bars for mood lighting.

  • Video & LED

The heart of the set design was a large LED portal of 100.5 m² at 1.9 mm pixel pitch, built with twenty corners for its distinctive shape. As a complement we raised two seven-metre side screens and two 20,000-lumen projectors to fill the arena with image.

The video mix ran from an Aquilon C+ alongside a Watchout server, a Resolume kit for artist graphics and dedicated computers for PowerPoint, QLab and the programme clock. Two 49-inch preview screens and full fibre multi signal routing were part of the mix position.

The camera production was built as a broadcast-scale arena production. Two manned studio cameras with HJ40 lenses ran on pedestal mounts, complemented by a crane with a dedicated operator, a Steadicam with operator and wireless link, and two robotic PTZ heads mounted directly on the stage.

Video direction ran from a Flightpack 4M/E with a separate 2M/E control surface, a bing console, a control rack for the PTZ cameras and ISO recording of all sources. Camera platforms and all signal routing were built specifically for the arena setup.

During the show, the production was staffed by video technicians, bing operator, video producer, two camera operators, crane operator and Steadicam operator.

  • Pre-programming

Ahead of the show we ran pre-production for two days in our studio, with two days of lighting pre-programming and timecode work and a joint production day on site with client, artists and choreographers. Video technicians staffed the pre-production for tw Read more about pre-programming
  • Decor & Set Design

The stage was built as a podium stage per drawing, with black stage skirt and fabric covering and a two-metre-wide staircase up to the higher stage level. Behind the stage we mounted a 69 × 12 metre black backdrop, and black voile was tensioned in the truss squares above the stage to create a dark backdrop against the arena ceiling. The entire stage surface was clad in black flooring.

The pre-party area was set up with a 4 × 4 metre centre stage with black needle felt carpet, black stage skirt and a custom-built DJ podium as a focal point.

At the entrance we rolled out a dark blue carpet down the crocodile-mouth tunnel, framed by six stainless steel entrance pillars with black ropes outside the entrance.

For the vernissage area we added a 25 m² dark Tele2-blue needle felt carpet, easy-drape fabric, ten wooden easels and three grey felt seat poufs.

For the production we built the podium stage for the main stage along with camera platforms integrated into the set design. Read more about carpentry
  • Content & Graphics

Ahead of the production we produced artist graphics for Resolume, run live from the video mix during the show moments. Read more about content & graphics
  • Concept & Visualisation

Ahead of the production we developed two complete stage solutions in 3D along with construction drawings that formed the basis of the build. Read more about concept & visualisation
